The Petco Foundation is proud to partner with Happy Pets Rescue, a nonprofit organization located in Pawnee, Indiana. Much like Petco Foundation's mission, Happy Pets Rescue is committed to finding loving and caring forever homes for their rescued pets.

Community Outreach

Prior to becoming a Petco Foundation Partner in the Fall of 2016, Happy Pets Rescue was actively engaging with their local community as often as they could. "We brought awareness to our cause by setting up adoption booths at free events all over the city," says CEO of Happy Pets Rescue, Sandra Dwyer. "Our most successful adoption sites were at popular, pet-friendly brunch restaurants."

Unfortunately, adoption rates were low due to the minimal amount of vehicle space available to the organization for pet transportation. According to Sandra, staff members and volunteers were using their personal vehicles, when available, to transport pets to adoption sites.

An Invaluable Partnership

In early October of 2016, the Petco Foundation invested $25,000 in Happy Pets Rescue. The grant went toward the purchase of a pet transportation van, large enough to transport more pets offsite and increase the adoption rates of cats, dogs and rabbits. Since the purchase of their vehicle in late 2016, adoption rates at Happy Pets Rescue has increased by 15 percent!

In the eight months since being awarded the grant and purchasing a vehicle for their organization, Happy Pets Rescue has adopted pets out at various community events throughout Pawnee, including their local Petco Adoption Center.

A Life Changing Impact

"Being able to find a happy home for our pets, where they are safe and healthy is all any of us work and live for," says Dwyer. "Our hearts fill with joy, knowing that we connect the people of our community with pets that will change their lives for the better."
